Let me first wish all of you well in this trying economy that we are currently experiencing. I know it's tough but don't let the media get you down. Georgia's economic climate is unique and we'll be back faster than most other states!
At the Fall Meeting in Asheville, Hector Lopez and I agreed to make certain the HBAG'S Board's concerns regarding Builders Insurance Group (BIG) were expressed to the appropriate leadership at the company and to see what steps might be taken.
An initial meeting was held between HBAG Officers, several HBAG members, including some of our Past Presidents, and the BIG Board of Directors. Since that time, meetings have taken place with Allen Richardson, Chairman of the BIG Board, and Patrick Mitchell, President and Chief Operating Officer of BIG.....
Allen & Patrick gave notice this week that on February 7th at 9:00 a.m. at Chateau Elan in Braselton there will be a specially scheduled, Annual Meeting of the BIG policyholders. Normally this meeting is held later in the year. The meeting will be the policyholders' opportunity to express their opinions and to vote to renew the three year term for three of the current, BIG directors. A question & answer discussion will be held, moderated by Patrick Mitchell.
BIG leadership has expressed that "HBAG does not represent the policyholders" so this is your opportunity to seek answers to your questions and give your thoughts. IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND THIS MEETING, it is most important that you fill out the proxy form you will receive from BIG and have someone who will be in attendance represent your interests.
BIG's Bylaws are written in such a manner that any policyholder who does not attend the meeting will have their vote VOTED BY BUILDERS INSURANCE' LEADERSHIP unless they have signed a proxy giving their right to vote to another person. BIG Leadership thus starts the meeting with approximately 10,000 votes. In order to represent your concerns as they have been communicated to HBAG, 5,000 proxies are needed ASAP………….
